  2. The tumor is less than 1.5 cm (5/8 in.), does not invade the capsule and is limited to one lobe of the prostate. Approximately 15 to 20 percent of patients have unsuspected lymph nodes with cancer when the lump is discovered, which is why pelvic lymph node sampling is required before the prostate is removed.
